BLUEGREEN (2008) : Filmmaker: Ben Keller
An impressive production from seasoned filmmaker Ben Keller. Founder of the Proven Film Fest, Keller crafts a film that connects surfers to the ocean. Diving deep below the obvious, Keller explores the deeper relationship between man and the sea. As a follow up to “Ishmael” I am stoked to see Ben develop his style and vision even further. Environmental Aquatic.

SEA FEVER: An Irish Surf Odyssey (2008) : Filmmaker: Ken O’Sullivan
Covering the past, present and future of Irish Surf Culture like the storms of the North Atlantic cover the Emerald Isle’s Coast, SEA FEVER is as thorough as it is enjoyable. Diabolical weather patterns, hurricanes and history, Sea Fever is more than just a casual glance at the beauty and the beast that is surfing in Ireland. Audience members at the festival were in awe of the size and quality of the Irish surf.

DRIP (2008): Filmmaker: Jack Motter
DRIP paints a portrait of the serene Central California Coast. This debut from promising filmmaker, Jack Motter, entwines the subtle and the bold, delivering a bounty of high performance wave riding with some classic mellow tunage.

NINE HUNDRED MILES (2008): Filmmaker: Oliver Banks

Surfing on the North Sea never looked so inviting. Oliver Banks reveals the striking beauty of a rugged and chilling coast. Making it’s US Premier at this year’s festival we are honored to screen a filmmaker that delivers jaw dropping scenes like the board building sequence before the opening title. Throughout the length of 900 miles there is a lyrical homage to the rare and beautiful coast of the North Sea.

DAWN PATROL: Filmmaker: Chip Hackler
A refreshing short film that dares to challenge the surf film genre by gently expressing the call of the sea that each of us face in our daily lives.

SURFER DUDE: Filmmaker: Rhiannon Tate
Writing a review that will take longer to read than the film takes to screen makes me wonder what words appropriately describe the flip book animation of Rhiannon Tate. Here a couple off the top of my head. Apple Farm, Beluga, Tortoise, Creamer, Warrior and Serenity. What these words have to do with the film, i don’t know. But for it’s 17 seconds, Surfer Dude, made me realize that surf film making can be as fleeting and fun as the waves that we ride. I laughed, I cried I watched it 17 times in ten minutes… well, really like three times in two minutes.
